On Saturday 30th January, new music fans can look forward to another showcase of cutting-edge talent at The Storey Creative Industries Centre’s evening Launch Party, with Lancaster’s own Satellites kicking off proceedings. Following straight on from the daytime public launch activities, celebrations will continue into the evening with an exclusive chance to enjoy bands and DJs from around the UK.
Event producer, Simon Harrison, is naturally enthusiastic about the line-up: “I’ve enjoyed watching these bands play before on different occasions so I’m delighted at the prospect of bringing them all together in one place. Headlining we have Gallops from Wrexham, whose sound has been described by BBC Wales as ‘cyborg soul music’! And Shmoo from Manchester, who have a more upbeat pop flavour and have just been tipped by BBC Introducing as ‘ones to watch in 2010’. So local favourites, Satellites, are in very good company!“
While all three bands sound completely different, what they all share is a pioneering sense of experimentation, blending traditional analogue rock instrumentation – such as drum kits and overdriven guitars - with state-of-the-art digital technology, using synths and laptops to create powerful new sounds. Simon expands: “It’s in the nature of the industry to try to categorise all new music, but whether you call it post-rock, data-rock, math-rock or synth-rock, the result is the same; an immersive cinematic listening experience to take your breath away.”
